About this drawing
This is the daylight version of the same subject as Dream Nights, and it could hardly be more different. In flat island light the palms lose their drama and become a group — leaning, uneven, each one shaped by the same prevailing wind.
The drawing sets them out as a rhythm rather than as individual trees: five trunks at uneven intervals, crowns overlapping, so the eye travels across the sheet the way it does along a colonnade.
Colour is thin and warm — dusty rose in the sand, blue-grey in the sea, a muted green that never becomes tropical. Anything brighter would have turned an ordinary afternoon into a postcard.
The ink line stays visible underneath throughout. It is a drawing that has been coloured, not a painting.
Where this print hangs well
Soft, low-contrast colour makes this a gentle print for a bedroom, nursery or a bright living room where a strong monochrome piece would feel heavy.
